Edward Scissorhands Gets the 4K Steelbook Treatment Ahead of Halloween and Preorders Are Live
Halloween is just around the corner, and if you’re looking to add another classic title to your spooky season collection, a Steelbook 4K UHD + Blu-ray + Digital version of Edward Scissorhands is up for preorder. In honor of the 35th Anniversary of the film, 20th Century Studios is releasing a special limited edition of the whimsical tale directed by Tim Burton on October 28th. It’s available for preorder from Amazon for $39.99 and will hopefully arrive just in time for Halloween.
This reinterpretation of Frankenstein tells the tale of a gentle young man with metal shears for hands, and it gets the 4K restoration treatment with its latest release, bringing more clarity and realism to the pastel, cookie-cutter neighborhood that Edward and Kim call home. Dolby Vision and HDR support will make for an even more dynamic and accurate picture on supported TVs or projectors. And with Dolby Atmos, a great home theater system with powerful speakers is sure to make that epic Danny Elfman score come alive.
Along with a UHD/BD combo of Edward Scissorhands comes a few bonus features that fans will love. It’s nothing crazy, but the feature-length audio commentary from director Tim Burton and composer Danny Elfman provides even deeper insights into how this stunning fantasy world came to life. There’s also a nice little featurette with the cast and crew offering more behind-the-scenes stories about Burton’s 1990 film.
All of this is packaged in a steelbook with some stunning visuals. The front features a melancholy-looking Edward (Johnny Depp) lurking behind his scissor hands, while on the back is Kim (Winona Ryder) peering through shattered glass, which is perhaps a callback to a pivotal scene in the film. When the steelbook is open, an image of Edward climbing down a gothic staircase is both haunting and mesmerizing.
