East Union road repairs underway

SHEPPTON – Road repairs are underway in East Union Township.

Old Mill Road is closed for an upcoming paving project and crews are expected in Brandonville soon, township officials said at Monday’s meeting.

“They’re going to start paving next week in Brandonville,” Township Roadmaster Danny Danchision said.

The township approved the 2025 road program at last month’s meeting.

Old Mill Road is being repaved at a cost of $215,737.50 and Second Boulevard in Brandonville, south of Chestnut Street, and each cross street including Chestnut, will be paved at a cost of $100,132.50.

KAYLEE LINDENMUTH / SHENANDOAH SENTINEL – East Spruce Street in Brandonville is seen on Oct. 7, 2025. Paving is expected to begin here next week.

Ronnie C. Folk was awarded the project.

Township supervisors also approved a resolution to seek grant funding for the remainder of Second Boulevard.

Supervisors are also considering a special assessment for properties on Green Mountain Road in the Humboldt Industrial Park to cover the cost of improving the road.

Donald Karpowich, solicitor, said properties fronting the road would be assessed based on the frontage of the property.

“A yearly assessment of about $150,000 seems reasonable, divided amongst everybody, until all of the improvements are completed,” Engineer Dominic Yanuzzi said during the discussion.

No action was taken on the assessment, though the township voted to seek a grant for the improvements.

Supervisors also voted to advertise a Verizon cell tower lease for bids.

Supervisor Jill Careyva also objected to the omission of a public comment statement made by Danny Danchision at the previous meeting from that meeting’s minutes.

Her objections were overruled by the remaining supervisors by a 2-1 vote to accept the minutes.
