WOODSTOCK, Ill. (WTVO) — A Boone County woman has been sentenced to spend 13 years in prison for setting the wrong house on fire in an arson attack.

According to the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, Brittany Terrell, 33, of Garden Prairie, along with an accomplice, drove to a home near downtown Crystal Lake in the early morning hours of April 20th.

Authorities said Terrell took a metal container containing an accelerant, lit it, and threw it at the exterior of the home, causing it to catch fire.

A good Samaritan, who was passing by, put the fire out.

An investigation by Crystal Lake Police led to the arrest of Terrell and her accomplice, Jesse Mendez. Investigators said they discovered that the pair had mistakenly set fire to the wrong house, with another person her intended target.

Mendez was previously sentenced to 14 years.
