The homes, priced at $195,000 each, were funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development after the City of Beloit sold the properties for just one dollar. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address the affordable housing crisis in the area.
“It’s not really a secret that there’s sort of an affordable housing crisis in America today,” said Todd Mandel of the Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development. “We’ve been in this space for over 40 years and so one of the things we continually try to do is generate new housing opportunities.”
The Wisconsin Partnership for Housing Development has collaborated with the City of Beloit on eight affordable housing projects since 2016, with three of these projects still under construction. This ongoing partnership aims to increase the availability of quality housing for those in need.
Project leaders emphasize the importance of providing quality shelter for families and first-time homebuyers, highlighting the challenges of meeting demand with limited inventory.
With the unveiling of these new homes, Beloit continues its efforts to expand affordable housing options, addressing a critical need in the community.
