Arkansas Storm Team Blog: Tropical Storm Jerry forms in the Atlantic

The season within the season in the Atlantic (August 20 to October 10) is coming to a close, but hurricane season continues through November 30. It’s been a slower year than previous years, and the U.S. has only had one direct landfalling storm so far (Tropical Storm Chantall). On Tuesday, October 7, though, the 10th named storm of the 2025 season formed in the tropical Atlantic.

Tropical Storm Jerry is quickly moving westward, well east of the Windward Islands in the central Atlantic. Jerry is forecast to become a Category 1 hurricane as it approaches the Leeward Islands and the Lesser Antilles mid to late week as it moves through a favorable environment. Jerry is likely to remain a low-end hurricane through the next week or so since wind shear is expected to impact the storm in the next few days, and it’ll move more quickly than some systems.

Jerry isn’t a threat to the United States. But Jerry’s something those in Bermuda, the Leeward Islands, and the Lesser Antilles should keep an eye on. Also in the Atlantic, a trough of low pressure is expected to emerge in the Bay of Campeche late Tuesday into Wednesday.

In the Bay of Campeche, there’s a very small chance of slow development of this low. Regardless of development, this isn’t a threat to the U.S., and it’ll bring heavy rain and gusty winds to parts of Mexico and Belize. The next name on the Atlantic 2025 list is Karen.
