The organization released its 2025-2026 Best Children’s Hospitals on Tuesday, Oct. 7, and WVU Medicine Children’s was named the top children’s hospital in the state for the fifth consecutive year. It also ranked 15th among hospitals in the Mid-Atlantic region, which WVU Medicine says is two places higher than last year’s list.
“This has been a year of incredible advancement for pediatric care at WVU Medicine Children’s,” Michael A. Grace, Ed.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.H.E., president and CEO of WVU Hospitals and senior vice president and COO of WVU Health System, said. “Our teams remain committed to expanding access to world-class care for children and expectant mothers across West Virginia and the surrounding region. This recognition reflects their dedication to excellence and to the families we serve every day.”
WVU’s Pediatric Urology Program also ranked 28th in the nation, and the Neuroscience Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry earned a top-50 ranking. The Behavior Medicine and Psychiatry department’s ranking marks what WVU Medicine calls a “milestone” for pediatric mental healthcare in West Virginia.
“This ranking is a historic milestone that reflects our team’s dedication and the urgent need for high-quality mental healthcare in West Virginia,” Kari-Beth Law, M.D., vice chair of clinical services for the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, said. “It underscores that world-class behavioral healthcare is not only possible here — it’s happening here, every day.”
According to WVU Medicine, to get the rankings, U.S. News & World Report collects data from a clinical survey sent to children’s hospitals and from a survey sent to thousands of pediatric doctors across the country. They then send the results to North Carolina-based research firm RTI International for analysis.
