USD 475 leader named Kansas Superintendent of the Year

GEARY COUNTY (KSNT) – A northeast Kansas school superintendent has been named the 2026 Kansas Superintendent of the Year.

The Kansas School Superintendents Association announced on Oct. 6 that Geary County Schools USD 475 Superintendent Reginald Eggleston has received the honor. Eggleston told 27 News earlier this year he is “humbled and very grateful”

to represent USD 475 when he was nominated for the special recognition.

“I am truly honored and humbled to receive this award,” Eggleston said. “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to God, my staff and to everyone across USD 475 for their dedication and commitment to making a positive impact on our students’ education, daily. This recognition would not be possible without their hard work and support. It is truly meaningful to represent not only our district, but also the state and public education as a whole.”

Eggleston will be honored alongside other finalists during the 2026 Superintendent of the Year Gala on Thursday, Nov. 13 in Wichita. Eggleston’s name will also be sent on to the National School Superintendents Association for consideration of the 2026 National Superintendent of the Year award.

USD 475 accepted Eggleston as the new superintendent in 2019. He currently oversees 17 schools, 1,300 employees and more than 7,000 students in USD 475.

Eggleston earned his bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism at Troy University, a master’s degree in special education at the University of Alabama, an educational specialist degree in administration at Auburn University and his doctorate of education at Nova Southeastern University. He is also a colonel in the Army Reserves and has more than 30 years of military experience, according to his biography.
