Rockford Police said that officers with the Specialized Community Oriented Policing Enforcement (SCOPE) team pulled up to a group of teens walking in the road near Rockton Avenue and Whitman Street around 8:50 p.m.
Police said the teen in question had a gun that was reported stolen out of Cook County.
The teen was charged with possession of a stolen firearm, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a weapon under the age of 18.
He was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
