According to Alsip police, the incident began around 10 pm. on Monday, after a female suspect called 911 and informed dispatchers that she was being chased by an active shooter near 124th Street and South Cicero Avenue in Alsip.
As officers made their way to the scene, the suspect allegedly placed several more calls to 911, this time claiming that she had killed an officer and was willing to kill another.
Authorities said that during each of the 911 calls, the suspect allegedly threatened to kill a police officer and even insisted that she was armed with a loaded firearm.
Officers tracked the suspect’s phone to the Burr Oak Cemetery in the 12400 block of South Cicero Avenue, and officers eventually located her on the west end of the cemetery.
According to poolie, as officers approached the suspect, she allegedly fled the scene and scaled a fence before crossing Cicero Avenue.
Officers said they followed the suspect and gave several commands to the subject to stop, but as they approached her, she allegedly turned around and pointed a firearm at the officers.
Officers then opened fire on the suspect, who was struck. Following the shooting, officers began life-saving measures until the Alsip Fire Department arrived and took over.
The suspect was later taken to the the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
On the scene, officers recovered a replica Colt firearm.
Authorities have not yet identified the suspect, but say the incident appears isolated and there is no threat to the public.
Following the shooting, Alsip police requested the assistance of the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit to investigate the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.,
