OPD investigating suspicious death as homicide

(KRON) — The Oakland Police Department said a suspicious death Tuesday morning is now being probed as a homicide.

The incident happened just before 8 a.m. in the area of Olive and Ritchie streets.

OPD said its dispatch center was notified of a “person who was down on the ground.” When officers arrived at the location, they found a victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. They were pronounced deceased by medics at the scene.

The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The motive and circumstances behind the incident are not clear. Oakland PD have not yet released a suspect description.
