“Not having baseball here in ’25 was unfortunate, but I think it really gave our community a chance to miss baseball, and so I think the excitement for 2026 is already building,” said former major leaguer and new team owner, Joe Thatcher.
On Tuesday, Thatcher, alongside the city and league commissioner, announced that Kokomo will be joining the Prospect League.
“Geographically, Kokomo is such a great fit. It’s an outstanding market,” said the commissioner of the Prospect League, David Brauer.
“For the fans of Kokomo, you’re going to have some Hoosier State rivals right away, in Lafayette, Terre Haute and Dubois County.”
The Prospect League now has 19 teams, spanning across seven states. It has also had the largest attendance growth for all summer collegiate baseball leagues.
“It’s really been phenomenal the last three years, 1.8 million fans have come through the gates, and in two of those years, the league set records in back-to-back seasons,” said Brauer.
This actually isn’t the first time Kokomo has stepped up to the plate in the league.
“They were a member from 2015 to 2018, won a championship in their final season here in the Prospect League,” said Brauer.
“It’s not only a welcome but it’s a welcome back, and it’s a welcome home.”
Fans will have at least 28 opportunities to see the team at home, with 56 games in the entire season, followed by playoffs.
As for a name, that’s not yet been decided, but they’ve narrowed down the ideas from the public.
”We kind of eliminated down, got down to a final four, so we do have different options,” said Thatcher.
“Couple of them pay homage to our heritage here in Kokomo. One of them, two of them are kind of crazy, kind of fun.”
They hope to reveal the official team name and logo in a few weeks with the season starting right after Memorial Day 2026.
