LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A London City Council meeting turned into a public forum Monday night after only two council members showed up.

The low turnout followed a social media call to action urging residents to attend and speak out.

On the agenda: approving previous minutes, appointing housing authority board members, and reading an ordinance on property tax rates.

But much of the public’s focus was elsewhere: demanding answers about council member Justin Young after allegations he used a racial slur against his ex-girlfriend during a domestic incident.

“Are they ready to spend the same amount of time kicking out Justin Young for all the awful things he’s done, that he’s said, that they spent trying to get this man out of office whenever we actually elected this guy in there? But they’re not here,” one community member said.

Monday night’s meeting is the latest chapter in the ongoing power struggle between the council and Mayor Randall Weddle, who was impeached in September and later reinstated.
