According to a social media post from Salt Lake City Fire Department (SLCFD), the fire is located at 960 S 700 W. It can be seen from I-15.

According to the public information officer with SLCFD, crews were first notified at 8:08 p.m. Roughly 33 emergency personnel responded to the scene, and no injuries in civilians or firefighters were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Batallion Chief Ryan Mellor said that the call came in from a passerby who saw smoke and flames on the roof of the building. When crews arrived, smoke and flames were coming out of the roof. No one was inside the building.

The fire was located in the attic space above the ceiling, and crews tried to come in through the roof to work on the fire, but the roof started collapsing, so they got the crews on the ground and began fighting the fire with aerials. There was a partial collapse of the roof and wall where the fire was burning.

As of 9:30 p.m., crews are still actively working the fire, but they are going to begin de-escalating. Mellor said that they’ve pinned the fire to the front right southeast corner of the building.

Mellor added that because buildings are inspected regularly, crews were prepared and knew what they were getting into.

There has been no damage to surrounding buildings, but the building affected by the fire is a large warehouse, and there is a business located in the back that was affected.

Officials are requesting the public to avoid the area as crews work to extinguish the fire.

No further information is available at this time.
