COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah (
ABC4) — Dozens of animals have been rescued from a Cottonwood Heights home, due to a hoarding situation.
According to the Cottonwood Heights Police Department (CHPD), dozens of cats were found inside a residence in the area of 1400 E Blue Grass Circle today. Initial reports stated that there were 70 or more cats, but law enforcement said that there were actually between 25-30 cats inside the home.
The animals were reportedly living in “terrible conditions”. CHPD also stated that the home was in unsanitary and ‘disastrous’ condition. Fortunately, law enforcement has said that all of the cats were in “good condition” and were spayed and neutered.
According to municipal laws, individuals cannot have more than three animals of the same species or four animals total on their property or residence without a permit.
Law enforcement has said that the residence homeowner is an elderly woman with medical problems who willingly surrendered the animals after the cats became too much for her to care for. Officials say they will not be releasing her identity.
CHPD also said that they will be partnering with the Utah Humane Society and other organizations to help get the cats adopted. Officials have said that they will be releasing more information about adoption opportunities tomorrow.
