BATON ROUGE, La. (
KLFY) — New video footage has emerged in the case of
former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacey, who was accused of causing a fatal car crash in December 2024.
The footage, released by Lacey’s attorney Matthew Ory, claims to show that Lacey had no involvement in the crash that resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall. Lacey had previously turned himself in to authorities and was released on a $151,000 bond.
“You know, I thought that this is a process that takes time,” said Lacey’s former football coach, Brian Kelly, during a press conference. “He was loved by us. Was loved before and is loved after.”
Following the crash in December 2024, state police issued a warrant for Lacey’s arrest on charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle. Lacey was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Houston in April.
“I have been in touch with Louisiana State Police about independently reviewing all the witness statements and evidence in this case,” said Attorney General Liz Murrill.
Lacey’s attorney, Matt Ory, maintains that his client did not cause the crash, and the newly released video is part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.
Groups such as the Louisiana Democratic Party and Purposed for the People are calling for independent, criminal and federal investigations to be conducted.
