RAYNE, La. (
KLFY) — The Acadiana community is mourning the loss of Jeremy Thomas, a beloved local DJ also known as DJ Sausage. Thomas tragically died in a car crash involving a semi-truck early Sunday morning.
According to the Rayne Police Department, the accident occurred around 3:25 a.m. when Thomas’ truck collided with the rear of a parked semi-truck on the shoulder of the highway. The news of his untimely death has deeply affected his family, friends and the community he served.
Cleveland Guidry, a family member, expressed the profound impact Thomas had on those around him.
“He touched everybody’s lives,” said Guidry. “If you didn’t have money to pay for a haircut, he was doing it. If you didn’t have enough money for him to DJ, he was doing it. If you didn’t, kids didn’t have nothing to like. Family would forget to get him money. He was taking care of kids.”
Rudolph Charles Jr., another family member spoke on Thomas’ legacy.
“What makes us proud of him, he was the example for all young men,” said Charles.
Thomas, affectionately known as DJ Sausage or Sauce to his family, was a multifaceted individual who was not only a talented DJ but also a beloved community figure. He was often seen doing what he loved, whether it was DJing or coaching youth sports.
Shalin Dean, a friend of Thomas, also remembered him fondly.
“He lit up the room, no matter what he was going through, he always lit up the room,” said Dean.
Thomas’ family and friends remember him as a man with a heart for the youth and his community. He was known for his generosity and willingness to help others, often providing services for free to those in need.
The Rayne Police Department is actively investigating the crash and is seeking the driver of the semi-truck involved, who was not present when officers arrived at the scene. Thomas’ family is seeking closure and accountability for the loss of their loved one.
Services for Jeremy Thomas will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Rayne Civic Center at 9 a.m.
