West Virginia congressman condemns targeted violence against Christians, blames Islamic campaign of terror

WASHINGTON (WTRF) — U.S. Rep. Riley Moore (R-W.Va.) condemned a violent assault in northeastern Nigeria that left thousands displaced and targeted Christians, and called for stronger international action against extremist groups.

The attack, carried out by Boko Haram militants in the border town of Kirawa, reportedly involved the burning of homes, a military barracks and the district leader’s palace. More than 5,000 civilians, including many Christians, have fled into neighboring Cameroon, according to reports. Witnesses said the homes of Christians were specifically targeted in the violence.

“This is not an isolated incident — it is the latest in a long campaign of terror, much of which is explicitly aimed at persecuting Christians in the region,” Moore said in a statement. “These acts of barbarism demand immediate international condemnation and swift action.”

Moore said the world must not “stand idly by while violent Islamic extremists rampage through communities, targeting Christians, displacing thousands and committing horrendous atrocities.”

Earlier this year, Moore introduced House Resolution 594, which condemns the persecution of Christians in Muslim-majority nations.
