NEW ORLEANS (
WGNO) — New Orleans is known for its haunted attractions and its interesting
bent on the Halloween season. Here are some things to do in and around the city in the lead up to Halloween night.
Haunted Tours👻
The Old Ursaline Convent swirls with paranormal legends, from vampires to ghosts, all layered into the building’s rich colonial history.
Haunted History Tours brings visitors through a variety of haunted attractions throughout the city. These include:
- The French Quarter Ghosts and Legends tour
- New Orleans Voodoo tour
- A Garden District tour
- A vampire tour
- A cemetery tour
They also offer a haunted pub crawl, combining some of the best haunts and best drinks in town.
Costume Shops🦇
If you’re looking for some good local shops to get your costumes, here are a few spots to check out:

Family Friendly🎃
Looking for some events for the kiddos? Here are some spots to consider.
- Ghosts in the Oaks in City Park, held Oct. 16 through Oct. 19, offers a trick-or-treat path, amusement rides, festive activities and live music.
- The Audobon Nature Institute is putting on Boo at the Zoo, a kids Halloween event offering photo opportunities with animals, trick-or-treating and a haunted house. Proceeds from the event will benefit Manning Family Children’s, as well as the Audobon Zoo.
- Monster Mash in Covington will feature rides, music, cookie decorating, crafts and trick-or-treating Saturday, Oct. 18.
- The Dawn Busters Kiwanis Club and Lafreniere Park will allow children up to the age of 12 and their families to dress up in Halloween costumes and go “Trunk-or-Treating,” visiting over 40 vehicles parked with candy. There will also be a carousel ride, face painting, opportunities for family photos, food and drinks.
- Bogue Chitto State Park trick-or-treating on Oct. 4, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
- Tickfaw State Park Halloween Hayride, Oct. 18 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Halloween Events👻
- Brews+Boos in City Park will feature amusement rides and free beer on Oct. 24 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
- Krewe of Boo, the city’s Halloween parade, will roll Saturday, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m.
- Dracula by the New Orleans Ballet Theater will perform at the Orpheum Theater Oct. 24 through Oct. 30.
- Witches Lunch Jazz Cruises Oct. 24 through Oct. 30 on deck of the Riverboat City of New Orleans.
- Halloween Bar Crawl Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 in the French Quarter
- David Laville, New Orleans Ghost Hunters, discussing haunted history of Louisiana’s antebellum plantations Oct. 30.
- Fall Fun at Grand Isle State Park, Saturday Oct. 25 at 3:00 p.m. Fall and autumn festivities, pumpkin patch and crafts.
- Bogalusa Boo Bash and National Night Out Against Crime, Oct. 31.
- Skeleton House NOLA
- Fairview-Riverside State Park will have trick-or-treating, a golf cart parade, scavenger hunt and live music on Oct. 25.
