
Kansans and other visitors only have a limited window of time left to visit some of the Sunflower State’s historic sites as they prepare to close for the season. Seven locations will fully close by Oct. 19 and won’t reopen until mid-April in 2026, according to the Kansas Historical Society.
- Closing on Oct. 18.
- Cottonwood Ranch – Studley.
- Closing on Oct. 19.
- First Territorial Capitol – Fort Riley.
- Grinter Place – Kansas City.
- Hollenberg Pony Express Station – Hanover.
- Mine Creek Civil War Battlefield – Pleasanton.
- Pawnee Indian Museum – Republic.
- Red Rocks – Emporia.
While seven historic sites will shut their doors to guests later this month, others will stay open throughout the coming winter and spring months, according to the KSHS. Year-round sites that you can visit include Constitution Hall in Lecompton, Last Chance Store in Council Grove and the Goodnow House in Manhattan.
