New court documents show that federal prosecutors from the United States Attorney’s Office of Southern New York have submitted paperwork that Mangione will not be brought back to Blair County to face his charges.
Previously, the U.S. Attorney’s office confirmed via email that Mangione wouldn’t be brought back; however, that wasn’t good enough for defense attorney Thomas Dickey, who is representing Mangione in Blair County.
The issue caused Mangione’s next court date in Blair County to be canceled after he refused to appear virtually. Dickey cited that it was Mangione’s constitutional right to be at the Blair County court in person.
U.S. prosecutors claim it’s not feasible, citing the extreme lengths they had to take to transfer him from Blair County back to New York, including the cost due to his intensive media coverage.
At this time, it’s unknown what Dickey’s next move may be, but it seems Mangione won’t be given to Blair County officials until after his murder trial in New York.
