Man shot in back near Downtown Fresno, suspect at large

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fresno Police are actively searching for the suspect responsible for shooting a man in the back near Downtown Fresno Sunday evening.

Just after 6:50 p.m., Fresno Police responded to the area of Gilbert and Callisch avenues for a report of a person who was shot.

Responding officers reported finding a man in his 40s suffering from a gunshot wound to his back. The man received first aid before being transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Investigators say some kind of disturbance occurred before the shooting, but are actively working to determine the circumstances leading up to when shots were fired.

Police are searching for the suspect who remains at large.

Detectives report the area will be closed off for the next couple of hours as they continue their investigation.
