IBERIA PARISH, La. (
KLFY) – The Iberia Parish Mosquito Control District has announced a series of aerial spraying operations scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 6, and continue through Thursday, Oct. 9.
According to the district, aerial treatments will commence each evening near sunset and last approximately one hour, weather permitting. Residents may notice low-flying aircraft during these times. Officials urge the public not to follow the aircraft, as they are flying rapidly and will exit the area quickly.
The scheduled spray zones for each evening are as follows:
- Monday, Oct. 6: Hubertville and surrounding areas, including Jeanerette, Linden Road, Jeanerette High School, East Admiral Doyle, Burleigh Road, and all points in between.
- Tuesday, Oct. 7: Bayou Jack, Avery Island, south of the Port of Iberia, Lydia, John Lewis, Patoutville, and surrounding areas.
- Wednesday, Oct. 8: Coteau Holmes, Walet, Braquet Road, Harold Landry, Daspit, Gaubert, Cemetery Road, and adjacent neighborhoods.
- Thursday, Oct. 9: Sugar Oaks, Vida Shaw, Danielle Road, Bayou Teche, Loreauville Park, and nearby areas.
While the pesticides used during aerial spraying are approved for public health use, individuals with heightened chemical sensitivities or those who prefer to avoid exposure should remain indoors during spraying operations. All others may continue regular outdoor activities.
Residents are encouraged to take standard mosquito-prevention precautions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Iberia Parish Mosquito Control recommend using insect repellent according to product labels, avoiding outdoor activity during dawn and dusk hours, wearing light-colored clothing that covers exposed skin and eliminating standing water around the home where mosquitoes may breed.
