The event featured a Poker Run 5K and a one-mile walk, all to raise funds for the no-kill shelter based in nearby Hamilton.
“Every effort, even on a Sunday, adds up,” said HSofHC Executive Dir. Kathryn Daly. “Events like this are vital to supporting our no-kill mission and helping animals find their forever homes.”
In a twist on the traditional race, participants picked up a playing card at each kilometer of the 5K. At the finish line, they drew one final card, completing their poker hands.
The winners weren’t those who were the fastest, but those with the best hands at the end, placed in their age group, and were awarded a medal and applause.
It was a full house of fun for a good cause. Anyone who would like to support can go to the HSofHC website.
