The Topeka native has 10 receptions for 97 yards this season, with three touchdowns. He last appeared in the Jayhawk’s game against West Virginia, where he had one reception for two yards.
“DeShawn had surgery and will probably be lost for the year,” Leipold said. “A quality young man, feel for him, everything that he’s sacrificed to get himself back to play.”
Leipold said that Hanika underwent the surgery last week.
Hanika transferred to Kansas from Iowa State in Dec. 2023, but was unable to play in 2024 due to an achilles injury before the season started.
