ST. GEORGE, Utah (ABC4) — Have you ever wanted to dig up ancient fossils that could end up in a museum? With the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site, now you can.
A new hands-on experience with the museum invites participants to join them for three hours to get a behind-the-scenes tour of the fossil preparation lab and then head to an active quarry site to uncover real fossils.

At the quarry site, participants will be briefed on safety and the unique tools that a paleontologist uses. The fossils at this site are millions of years old, and small finds like fish scales may be taken home. Bigger discoveries will remain at the museum for research and preservation.
“Fossil Discoveries offers the unique opportunity to learn, explore, and make real contributions to science,” Andrew Milner, Curator & Lead Paleontologist at the St. George Dinosaur Discovery Site, is quoted in the press release. “It’s a chance for visitors to experience firsthand how fossils are found and why these discoveries matter to our understanding of ancient life in this region.”
The Fossil Discoveries adventure is open to those 8 years and older, and tickets are $50 per person. The experience will run on Saturdays and Sundays between Oct. 4 and Dec. 14, 2025.
