ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A joyful mix of wagging tails and gentle purrs filled the church grounds Sunday afternoon as Holy Family Catholic Church held its Blessing of the Animals in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.

Local families gathered with their dogs and cats to take part in the outdoor ceremony, where each animal received a special blessing from the church’s clergy. The event celebrated the spiritual bond between people and their pets, recognizing animals as an important part of God’s creation.

“They are part of God’s creation, and they give us joy,” said Father Nilo Nalugon, pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church. “Through our pets and animals, we also recognize the goodness of God in our lives.”

As the ceremony concluded, families lingered to enjoy the afternoon, take photos, and share stories, united by their faith and their furry companions.
