One traffic stop, two arrests

Two people who were both arrested in the same traffic stop appeared during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court September 22.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the two people taken into custody were: the driver, 50-year-old Nikki Christine Bappe, and her passenger, 49-year-old Edmond Crow. They both entered not guilty pleas to the drug-related charges against them.

Both Bappe and Crow listed the same address along Crest Loop in Gassville on court documents.

The Gassville police officer who made the stop ran a computer check and found that Bappe and Crow had prior drug-related charges. He also reported they were both exhibiting “nervous behavior.”

Because of their history, the officer requested that a drug detection dog be brought to the scene.

He reported that before the dog and handler arrived, Bappe consented to a search of the vehicle.

When the dog and handler got to the scene, the canine alerted on both the driver’s and passenger’s side of the vehicle.

The officer located several pieces of a crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine where Bappe had been sitting. In addition, several types of pills were located in a backpack belonging to Crow. The pills were identified as Acetaminophen/Hydrocodone, Buprenorphine Hydrochloride and Clonazepam.

Several containers that “had the odor of marijuana” were also found in the backpack.

Bappe is charged with possession of methamphetamine and Crow with possession of the seven pills and the marijuana.

Both Crow and Bappe were also involved in another traffic stop/drug find arrest in early September last year.

Crow was found to have two small plastic bags containing approximately 4 grams of methamphetamine in his right front pants pocket. In addition, items of drug-related paraphernalia were also found.

Bappe was not charged in the 2024 case which is still open according to electronic court records.

Crow has had a number of convictions on felony charges. According to the probable cause in the 2024 case, he had been sentenced to a total of 360 month in prison and put on probation for 156 months.

At the time he was arrested last year, he was out on parole. He had been sentenced to 120 months in prison in May 2018.
