Colts dominate Raiders, 40-6, to improve to 4-1

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts rebounded from their first loss of the season last week to beat the Las Vegas Raiders, 40-6, at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday afternoon to improve to 4-1.

The Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Colts took total control of the game from there.

Quarterback Daniel Jones connected with tight end Tyler Warren for an 11-yard touchdown to give the Colts the lead for good.

The special teams then delivered as Segun Olubi blocked AJ Cole’s punt setting up the offense at the Las Vegas’ 8-yard line. Running back Jonathan Taylor scored four plays to put the Colts up 14-3.

Kicker Spencer Shrader was injured on the extra point on a roughing the kicker penalty on Tristin McCollum. Shrader left the game with a right knee injury.

The Raiders drove down to the Colts’ 11-yard line before the defense stepped up with a big play as defensive tackle Grover Stewart deflected a Geno Smith pass to defensive end Laiatu Latu for an interception.

The Colts cashed in the takeaway with a 14-play, 88-yard drive capped by a Jones to Michael Pittman 4-yard touchdown. With Shrader out of the game, the Colts went for two, but were stopped.

Las Vegas kicker Daniel Carlson missed a 57-yard field at the end of the first half to send the teams to the locker room with the Colts leading, 20-3.

The Colts scored touchdowns on all three of their third-quarter possessions. Taylor scored on a 1-yard run, running back Ameer Abdullah from two yards out after a Mekhi Blackmon 32-yard interception return and Taylor again on a 6-yard run. The Colts led, 40-3, entering the fourth.

With the game out of hand, former first round pick Anthony Richardson entered the game at quarterback for the Colts for some reps.

The Colts will host the Arizona Cardinal next week at Lucas Oil Stadium at 1 p.m. on FOX59.
