TRAFFIC ALERT: Landslide in Bluffdale closes bridge, cleanup ongoing
BLUFFDALE, Utah (ABC4) — Due to a landslide in Bluffdale at around Redwood Road and 14600 South, the Bluffdale 146th one way bridge is closed.
The Bluffdale Police Department said that a five-inch water valve flooded a canal and washed over a road. Community water is not affected, and no one was injured. There is no threat to surrounding buildings.
Bluffdale Mayor Natalie Hall told ABC4 that earlier this morning, Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District was doing regular maintenance to get ready for winter, and the air valves filled up.
“Those filled up so much that actually our culvert that we just built, that also filled up,” Hall said. “But they were really responsive when we called them, they got right over, everything was turned off, and there wasn’t any damage to homes or anything in the surrounding area, other than the road.”
The bridge is estimated to be closed until Saturday afternoon. The Bluffdale Police Department is asking drivers are asked to find alternate routes and avoid the area.
Trees were downed in the road, and crews have been working to remove them and clean up the mud.
“There’s a slight slope all along this road, and when that amount of water started soaking into the ground and it was there all morning, there was– the slope then failed, and there was some trees and a lot of mud, so we’ve been cleaning up all day,” Hall said.
