Searcy County man gets life plus 10 years for wife’s murder

SEARCY COUNTY, Ark. – A Searcy County man will spend the rest of his life in prison after entering a guilty plea in court.

Officials with the Arkansas State Police said 76-year-old Jeffery Stansbery of St. Joe pleaded guilty to capital murder and abuse of a corpse on Friday. The charges were in connection with the death of Stansbery’s wife, 43-year-old Amanda Stansbery, also of St. Joe.

Jeffery Stansbery was sentenced to life plus 10 years without parole in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

ASP officials said members of its Criminal Investigation Division assisted the Searcy County Sheriff’s Office in a homicide investigation after deputies found Amanda Stansbery dead at her Chipley Road home.

Deputies were also dispatched for a welfare check after Jeffery Stansbery reportedly told staff at Cox Medical Center in Branson, Missouri, that he had harmed his wife. Stansbery had entered the hospital seeking treatment for a medical condition.
