“City crews monitored rain conditions around the Buckley Draw area throughout the night and will continue to keep a close watch throughout the day,” Provo City officials said. “The debris basins built after the Buckley Draw fire held the runoff from last night’s storms. Crews are currently pumping out water from the basin into the storm drain system to restore storage capacity to capture debris.”

The Buckley Draw Fire ignited in Utah County on August 17 in Buckley Draw Canyon between Springville and Provo. The fire did not damage any structures, but the area has dealt with multiple runoff issues since the fire was extinguished.
The first incident of runoff occured on August 27, when heavy rains caused a mudslide that flowed down the canyon, with debris reaching as far as State Street. The mudslide also damaged an LDS Church meetinghouse. In response, crews with Provo City worked to clear nearly 23,000 tons of debris and to shore up the area in the event of future flows
The second runoff incident occured on September 22, when water flows caused closures along Slate Canyon Drive near Provo. Officials say that no homes were damaged in any of these incidents.
