Pedestrian dies following crash on Hazard Avenue in Enfield

ENFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) – The Enfield Police Department is investigating a crash in which a pedestrian was killed and a building was struck on Saturday morning.

Enfield Police Lieutenant Keith Parent stated that at approximately 9:43 a.m. on Saturday, officers were called to the intersection of Hazard Avenue and Middle Road regarding a motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed that the operator of a BMW SUV was driving on Hazard Ave. when they left the roadway and reportedly struck a pedestrian and a crosswalk signal.

Following the collision, the vehicle continued moving forward and crashed into a building at 80 Hazard Avenue, eventually stopping inside the business. Police said the driver was brought to Hartford Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

The pedestrian, identified as 57-year-old Kimberly Knowles, was brought to Baystate Medical Center, where she died shortly after.

The intersection was closed for several hours after the crash, with eastbound traffic on Hazard Avenue being diverted onto Freshwater Boulevard.

The Enfield Police Department Traffic Division is currently investigating this incident alongside the METRO Traffic Services Regional Traffic Team. Anyone with information regarding the crash is urged to contact Officer Nisyrios at 860-763-8985.
