BATON ROUGE, La. (
Louisiana First) — The Louisiana Democratic Party is calling for an independent investigation into what it says were wrongful accusations made against former LSU football player Kyren Lacy.
In a Saturday statement, the party said the situation shows how false reporting and misuse of authority by some law enforcement officers can harm lives and public trust.
The party is also working with the Lacy family to propose “The Lacy Law,” a bill that would penalize officers who knowingly make false reports or misrepresent evidence.
Lacy’s attorney, Matthew Ory, shared more details about the deadly crash that killed Herman Hall, 78. Ory claims that he obtained an investigative report with details to prove his client’s innocence.
In the report, Ory said Lacy passed four cars, but data shows that Lacy was over 70 yards behind Hall at the time of impact.
The LSU football star was accused of negligent homicide after the crash on Highway 20 in January and turned himself in. He was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle. He was released after posting bail.
Lacy denied any involvement in the crash, but in April, he was found dead from what investigators believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“Justice is not a partisan issue. It is a moral one. The Louisiana Democratic Party will always stand up for fairness, truth, and the protection of every individual’s rights — no matter their background, profession, or status,” the statement said.

“The Louisiana Democratic Party stands firmly on the side of truth, justice, and accountability. The recent wrongful accusations made against former LSU football player Kyren Lacy are deeply troubling and represent yet another painful example of how false reporting and reckless actions by certain members of law enforcement can destroy lives and damage public trust.
Mr. Lacy, like any citizen, deserves to be treated with dignity and fairness under the law — not subjected to baseless allegations that tarnish reputations before the facts are known. The Louisiana Democratic Party condemns in the strongest possible terms any effort by law enforcement officers to misuse their authority or misrepresent the truth.
We demand that Attorney General Liz Murrill immediately launch a full-scale, independent investigation into the wrongful accusations made against Mr. Lacy. The people of Louisiana deserve answers, and those responsible for spreading false information must be held accountable under the law.
Furthermore, with collaboration and approval from the Lacy Family, we are calling on members of the Louisiana Legislature to introduce and pass “The Lacy Law” during the upcoming legislative session — a reform designed to prevent false reporting and wrongful accusations by law enforcement officers. This legislation must include strict penalties for officers or agencies found to have deliberately fabricated or misrepresented evidence, as well as measures to protect citizens’ rights and restore public confidence in our justice system.
Justice is not a partisan issue. It is a moral one. The Louisiana Democratic Party will always stand up for fairness, truth, and the protection of every individual’s rights — no matter their background, profession, or status.”
