Bomb threat at American Fork High, students dismissed from class

AMERICAN FORK, Utah (ABC4) — A police response is underway at American Fork High School due to a bomb threat, according to the Alpine School District.

The high school was evacuated around noon Friday, Oct. 3, in response to the bomb threat, according to Rich Stowell, Alpine School District. Classes have been cancelled for the remainder of the day.

A teacher had reportedly discovered a note referencing a bomb and reported it to police. Police are conducting a thorough sweep of the premises, according to Stowell.

Any student who needs essential access to the building related to an extracurricular activity must coordinate directly with their coach or advisor. Buses are being rerouted to accommodate the earlier release time.

Police have not found anything suspicious at this time.

“Student safety is paramount, and we rely on excellent collaboration with law enforcement to keep our school safe,” Stowell said in a statement. “We are grateful for the swift response by the American Fork Police Department, and encourage anyone with information about this incident to contact them directly.”

This the second bomb threat at a Utah high school in the past 48 hours. Ben Lomond High School in Ogden was evacuated after receiving a bomb threat on Thursday, according to the Ogden Police Department. No explosives were found.

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.
