Baylor blocks game winning field goal, hands K-State its second conference loss

WACO (KSNT)- With five seconds to go, K-State’s Luis Rodriquez had a shot to sink a 56-yard field goal to get the win.

The Wildcats fall to 2-4 with a 1-2 mark in Big 12 play.

Avery Johnson was 29/45 for 339 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 72 yards and a score on the ground in the loss.

He connected with Jayce Brown and Garrett Oakley for scores.

Instead, Baylor blocks the kick and walks away with a 35-34 win. Brown had four catches for 106 yards while Oakley was the favorite target with six receptions for 54 yards.

Johnson got the Wildcats on the board early as he ran from 31-yards out for a 7-0 start.

After a Baylor field goal, the Bears found the endzone in the second quarter as Sawyer Robertson found Kobe Prentice for a 30-yard strike to lead 10-7.

The Wildcats would respond with a a 49-yard field goal before both teams traded scores to go into the half 17-17.

Out of the break, the Wildcats opened the game up with 14 straight points from a Jayce Brown 12-yard touchdown reception and Dylan Edwards rushed for a five-yard score.

Trailing 31-17, Baylor found the endzone again and converted the two-point conversion with 8:50 to go.

Ball back with the Wildcats, Johnson would throw a pick-six as Baylor’s Jacob Redding would take the interception for a 66-yard touchdown to give Baylor the 32-31 lead.

Luis Rodriguez would give the Wildcats the slight 34-32 edge with 1:48 to go with a 22-yard field goal.

Baylor would move down the field and knock in a 53-yard field goal before blocking K-State’s attempt.

K-State will return to Manhattan and host TCU Oct. 11 for a 2:30 kickoff.
