At a launch party Thursday night, the station celebrated one year on the air with a big party with musical entertainment from local Latino singer-songwriters Detzany, Jazzy Olivo and Heber Matute.
Avanza 88.3 Program Director Edgar Zúñiga says, “Now more than ever, we really need to come together and celebrate what makes us unique and the contributions that we bring.”
Just one year in, the station has big plans to expand their coverage by launching a new mobile app and reach Ogden at the end of the fall season, with even more plans to soon reach Provo.
For now, listeners can find Avanza on 88.3 FM in Salt Lake County, statewide on PBS subchannel 7-6 and on www.avanzautah.org.
Community Engagement Producer for Avanza 88.3, Caroline Linares says it’s more than just a typical station, “One in five folks are Latino. In places like West Valley, Glendale, Rose Park, that number is up to 40%. And so, we really need something that serves our community that’s made by our community, for our community. And so that’s what Avanza is doing.”
