Arkansas is opening a portal for local groups to share ideas on how to improve healthcare in small towns and rural areas.
Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders submitted a letter to the federal government on Sept. 30 saying the state plans to apply for funding through the Rural Health Transformation Program. The program provides federal money to improve healthcare access and availability in rural communities.
KTLO News spoke with State Representative Stetson Painter, who goes over the things rural citizens should know about this program.
Listen:
Arkansas is working to get new federal money from the program, but at the same time, the state will see Medicaid funding reduced in January. That means while one program could bring in more money, another will be cutting back.
Listen:
Applicants wanting to submit a proposal will only have until Oct. 10, and the state must send it’s application for federal funding by Nov. 5. Painter says he believes this program could make a big differenece and encourages all eligible groups to apply.
Listen:
Hospitals, doctors, nonprofits, and other organizations can submit proposals online through the new portal. The state can get extra funding if it shows that these proposals will help rural healthcare last longer and serve people better.
