Uber launches option to request women drivers, passengers for rides

(FOX40.COM) — Uber has launched a new feature called “Women Preferences,” which allows female riders to request rides with women drivers and women drivers to accept trips from female riders.

The rideshare company announced the plan in July 2025 and said the “Women Preference” feature is designed to give women riders and drivers more choice, more confidence, and more flexibility when they use Uber.

“At Uber, we believe that when we make our platform better for women, we make it better for everyone,” Uber said in a press release. “Across the U.S., women riders and drivers have told us they want the option to be matched with other women on trips. We’ve heard them—and now we’re introducing new ways to give them even more control over how they ride and drive.”

Riders can find this option when booking on-demand rides, use it for scheduled trips, or choose a permanent preference in their app settings to increase their chances of a match. Female drivers can also select “Women Rider Preference” in their app settings, including during peak and nighttime hours.

Although women preferences are designed to match women with women, Uber said it cannot guarantee that all users driver or rider matches with while using this feature will be women, or appear in a way that they would identify as a woman.

“If you are matched with someone you believe is a male User while using this feature, you may cancel the lease and select ‘I selected trips with women riders’ as your cancellation reason,” Uber said.

Uber’s women’s preferences are available in 40 countries, including the Middle East, South America, Africa, Australia, and Europe. Pilots were recently launched in the U.S. in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit.

“As we expand Women Preferences across the U.S., we’ll continue improving the experience through education, partnerships, and features,” Uber said.
