Two dead after fatal multi-vehicle crash in Kane County
KANE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Two individuals were killed on US-89 near Big Water due to a crash that led to extensive road closures.
On October 1, 2025, at approximately 4:40 p.m. three vehicles were involved in a fatal accident near Big Water on US-89. Due to the crash, US-89 was closed to all traffic for several hours.
Utah Highway Patrol confirmed at the time that two people were deceased due to the crash. Today, they have released additional information about the incident.
Reportedly, a semi-truck was traveling southbound on US-89 and a pickup truck hauling a boat was traveling northbound. A passenger car was on a cross street and attempted to cross the highway from the East side.
The passenger car attempted to cross in front of the southbound semi-truck, failing to yield the right of way to the semi. Despite locking its brakes and trying to stop, the semi-truck struck the passenger car and sent it into the northbound lane.
The pickup truck then struck the car on its passenger side in a “T-bone manner”.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, both occupants of the passenger car were declared deceased on scene. They have been identified only as a 28-year-old female and a 29-year-old female, both from China.
All five occupants in the pickup truck were transported to the hospital, but they were later cleared. Reportedly, the driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.
US-89 was closed for several hours, but was reopened at approximately 8:19 p.m. on October 1st, while Utah Highway Patrol investigated the crash.
Law enforcement has not released any additional information about the victims or any other individuals involved in the incident at this time.
