The suit claims that the bar’s owners, Darin Adams and John Landry, along with bartenders, managers, a Lyft driver, and several other individuals and companies, are responsible for Brooks’ death.
Brooks, 19, was struck by a vehicle around 3 a.m. near Pelican Lakes Parkway after leaving Reggie’s. East Baton Rouge deputies said that Brooks had a blood alcohol content of .319% and injuries consistent with sexual assault.
Four suspects, Kaivon Washington, Casen Carver, Everett Lee, and Desmond Carter, were arrested.
According to court records, the judge granted summary judgment to James River Insurance and USAA Casualty Insurance, dismissing claims against them during the Sept. 15 hearing. 242 Investments, LLC also had claims dismissed, though plaintiffs were given 45 days to amend their complaint.
Some motions by C.B., LLC, Adams, and Landry were overruled, while one regarding “improper cumulation of defendants” was allowed without prejudice, giving Brooks’ father time to amend.
A hearing for Andrew Gleneck’s motions claiming vague petitions was postponed to a later date.
