Portland woman pleads guilty to intimidating federal officer at ICE protest

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A woman pleaded guilty to intimidating a federal officer during a protest outside the Portland ICE facility over the summer.

Portland resident Julie Winters, 47, is accused of brandishing a large knife and swinging it back and forth at officers during the protest on June 24, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon said in a press release.

Winters is facing a felony intimidation of a federal officer charge for the June incident. Another charge of resisting arrest stems from law enforcement agents attempting to apprehend her two months later, officials said.

After allegedly violating the conditions of her pretrial release, Winters reported to the Pretrial Services Office on August 20. When federal law enforcement agents attempted to arrest her, based on a federal warrant, she resisted and caused “forcible contact with U.S. Deputy Marshals,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Oregon said.

Winters will be sentenced in a U.S. District Court for both charges in December.
