Outdoor challenge kicks off in Kansas with special prizes for winners

TOPEKA (KSNT) – If you love getting outdoors in Kansas, then this challenge is for you!

Kansans are being encouraged to get outside to help celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday next year. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks is inviting people to participate in its Kansas Outdoor Recreation Challenge by dusting off their trail shoes.

Participants can take part in the challenge by logging at least 10 outdoor activities between now and July 4, 2026. Anything from hiking and camping to going to KDWP-sponsored events and historic sites count towards the contest.

“Connecting people to meaningful outdoor experiences is at the heart of our mission,” said  Conner O’Flannagan, Kansas State Parks director. “This challenge encourages you to enjoy our public lands responsibly and strengthens the connection between people and the outdoors.”

People who complete the challenge will get a certificate of completion for their efforts. The KDWP also promises “a few fun surprises” while supplies last for those who want to take part in the contest.
