Passionate debate on an issue is part of the process and is encouraged in the House of Representatives. Things, however, went too far on Wednesday.
The bill in question was a ban on devices that can convert guns into automatic guns. Philadelphia Democrat Malcolm Kenyatta accused Republicans of being indifferent to deaths at the hands of these devices.
Kenyatta also blasted Republicans who said they needed to bear arms to ward off tyrannical governments, asking why they are silent when there is a tyranny coming from Washington DC.
Kenyatta’s words sparked an argument on the floor, leading a Republican House member to say something to Kenyatta as he left. The microphone didn’t pick up what exactly was said, but abc27 News was told that there were taunts and insults being thrown around.
The incident got heated to the point where leaders of both parties admonished all parties to do better.
