Officers cited a 72-year-old driver for failure to reduce speed and due care to avoid a pedestrian following the incident, which police say occurred just before 5:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 6200 block of North Talman, in Chicago’s West Ridge neighborhood.
Police said the driver was traveling northbound on Talman when the child was crossing the road from east to west before the accident.
Suffering from blunt force trauma-related injuries, paramedics rushed the injured 4-year-old girl to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition, where she later died.
Major Accidents is investigating.
