Community support shines as Abilene nonprofit raises over $70K
Funds were collected through a silent auction, donations, and the annual homecoming court competition.
This year’s court included Jama Cadle, Jennifer Martinez, Maegan Brest, Melanie Unger, Ash Wright, Matt Smith, Seth Pietsek, Ryan Holmes, Tim Farrar, and KRBC’s own Abby Green. At the end of the night, Jennifer Martinez and Matt Smith were crowned homecoming queen and king.
“I’m just so thankful that we were able to give back to this organization,” Green shared.
“Just a great cause,” Holmes added. “It reminds us why we like living in Abilene, because so many people are willing to help and give back. We saw somebody tonight who got approved for their home, closed on it, big night tonight. So it’s just a lot of fun, and everybody’s reliving the prom.”
In 2025, Habitat for Humanity completed four homes. Looking ahead, the nonprofit plans to construct five to eight more homes in 2026.
