SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — The driver of a big rig was pulled over in San Francisco Tuesday morning, after a citizen informed the California Highway Patrol that they were towing a second big rig on the freeway using a metal pole.

“We typically see people tow vehicles using a tow truck, but this big rig driver elected to tow another big rig tractor using nothing more than a metal pipe,” CHP said.

Towing another vehicle with a pipe and some chain is not legal or safe, CHP warned. But that wasn’t the only issue.

“After [CHP officers] stopped the big rig, they were shocked to learn that in addition to the improvised towing rig, the truck’s brake chambers were dragging on the ground; a clear indication that they weren’t working,” CHP said.

The diver was ticketed and both big rigs were towed from the scene.
