BREAKING: 6 injured after explosion of building in downtown Houston, HFD says

HOUSTON (KIAH) — Six people were injured in an explosion of a boiler at a hotel building under construction in downtown Houston, the fire department said.

Multiple people, believed to be construction workers who were working inside the building, are being taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital for burn injures, the fire department said.

Units were called to the building that was supposed to be a Holiday Inn Express at 1319 Texas Avenue at Austin Street on Thursday afternoon after reports of a tank explosion at that building under construction.

There are street closures in the area as emergency vehicles are working the scene. The area is covered in glass from the broken windows of the building.

The incident is under investigation.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
