RPD said a person was found deceased “from unknown causes” in the area of 33rd Street and Macdonald Avenue, which is in close proximity to De Jean Middle School.
Police said there is no active threat for the campus, and that investigators have been directly providing updates to school officials.
“Although the location is close to De Jean Middle School, we want to reassure our community that the school has not been impacted and there is no danger to students and staff,” said Richmond police in a social media post. “We understand the concern when incidents happen near our schools.”
Richmond PD said there is currently police activity in the area and commuters are urged to avoid the area as detectives continue working at the scene.
Police said they will release more details on the case as information is available.
