“I think there will come a time when AI can be a much better CEO for OpenAI than me and I will be nothing but enthusiastic the day that happens,” Altman told the host, Axel Springer CEO Mathias Dopfner.
And what will Altman do when that celebrated day arrives?
He’ll become a farmer, naturally.
“I have a farm that I live on some of the time, and I really love it,” Altman told Dopfner. “And it sounds like a wonderful change of pace.” Altman added that before ChatGPT took off, he had more time on the farm to “driver tractors and pick stuff.”
Altman, 40, reportedly owns a ranch in Napa Valley, a mega mansion in San Francisco’s elite Russian Hill neighborhood, and a $49 million oceanfront mansion on Hawaii’s Big Island.
According to Forbes, he is currently worth $2.3 billion.
Median U.S. farm household income in 2023 was about $98,000, according to the USDA.
