SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A man is in police custody after allegedly breaking into a police recruit’s vehicle and stealing “several police items.”

Allen Gordon, 41, is facing multiple felonies, including firearm theft, dangerous weapon conduct, and burglary of a vehicle.

Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department investigated a vehicle burglary in a parking garage. They say video evidence shows Gordon breaking into a vehicle belonging to an SLCPD recruit and stealing “bags from the interior.”

Charging documents show multiple items were stolen, including:

  • A department-issue firearm
  • Body armor
  • Uniforms
  • ID tags
  • A department-issue laptop computer

According to SLCPD, investigators received “intel that the possible suspects” were located at a camp near 1300 East and Wilmington Avenue. On Tuesday, Sept. 30, soon after arriving at the camp, officers identified Gordon and took him into custody. Drug paraphernalia was found on his person.

Police say they were able to find and recover the stolen items at a “different location.”

Gordon is being held without bail in the Salt Lake County Jail.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
